BALLET MEMPHIS, OVERTON SQUARE – Memphis, Tennessee
For more than 25 years, Ballet Memphis has been a performing arts anchor within the community. Realizing that a move to a different location within Memphis was necessary, they embarked upon a new 38,000-square-foot facility on Overton Square. The see-through design includes four dance rehearsal rooms plus the 5,000- square-foot tall ceiling performance and rehearsal space. TALASKE provided acoustic design services for the entire facility. Cost: $12.6M. Completion: 2017.

JOFFREY BALLET IN CHICAGO – Chicago, Illinois
The Joffrey Ballet moved to a new permanent home, 45,000-square-feet on the third and fourth floors of a new high rise in Chicago’s downtown area. The facilities include seven state-of-the-art rehearsal studios, a studio dance theatre for rehearsals and small performances (144-seat), plus the company’s administrative offices. Acoustic design included avoiding structural vibration from dancers within this new downtown commercial building. Cost: $23M (purchase of building and buildout). Completed: 2008.

NORTHEASTERN ILLINOIS UNIVERSITY – Chicago, Illinois
TALASKE provided room acoustic, acoustic isolation and noise control design for a music building (VOA) with 200-seat recital hall including rehearsal rooms, practice rooms and faculty studios. Extensive renovation of 450-seat auditorium (VOA/Raymond) for multi-use performances and lectures. Cost: $24M. Completion: 2000 & 2004.

WALGREEN THEATRE COMPLEX, UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN – Ann Arbor, Michigan
The 1st phase of the new Walgreen Theatre Complex included new facilities for the theatre and departments and the new 292-seat Arthur Miller Theatre, the only theatre named for the noted playwright and alumnus. The 2nd phase included the 460-seat Stamps Auditorium, designed for lectures, presentations and music recitals. Cost: $42.8M. Completion: 2006. Arthur Miller Theatre & Drama Center; 2008 Stamps Auditorium.

OLD TOWN SCHOOL OF FOLK MUSIC, NEW BUILDING – Chicago, Illinois
When this locally-renowned music education organization decided to expand into a new building in Chicago’s Lincoln Square neighborhood, it made clear that uncompromised audio quality and acoustic isolation were absolute musts. This three-story building houses several new music and dance classrooms, as well as a multipurpose performance hall that will serve as a venue for concerts and dance events. New audio systems were provided for all of these spaces. Demanding classroom adjacencies provided a unique challenge for acoustic isolation. Cost: $10M Completion: 2011.
